The Road More Traveled; Sharing the Lanes in India

It seems like the goal is to win the game of how many lanes can we make out of this two lane road. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, tuk tuks, rickshaws, buses, horses, oxen and of course cows, all vie for their fair share. Anything goes. Honking is encouraged. After a short time, you're able to tell the difference between, "Pardon me, I'm passing you" to "GET OUT OF MY WAY"! A constant cacophony day and night. And amazingly, we didn't see one accident, although I think we all lost a year or two. We loved the juxtaposition of new vs. old, small vs.large, many vs. two wheels (or legs).

Animals don't seem phased by the other modes of transportation.

It was a real thrill to turn left on our rickshaw in Delhi!

 Top Tips

  • I wouldn't recommend renting a car in Delhi or in any big city in India for that matter. Leave the driving to others!

  • Tuk tuks are a great way to get around!
